Our Glass Service History

Excel Glass Co., Inc. was founded in 1946 by E.W. McConnell and M.A. Leister at 440 South Sixth Street in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. The original structure was 32 feet by 45 feet. Mr. Leister ran the business by himself while Mr. McConnell continued with his duties at the American Glass Company and worked at Excel Glass Co., Inc., in his free time. At this stage, there was only part-time help available to work with them.

As the business increased, one of the full-time employees hired was Larry Brezler. By 1950, there were four full-time employees, as the building industry was growing. Their primary work at that time was glazing. One of Excel’s major projects in the area at that time was the glazing of the homes in Pleasant Park. In 1954, business had progressed to the point that expansion was necessary.

Upon Mr. McConnell’s sudden death in May of 1966, Mr. Leister and Mr. Brezler became partners. In 1971, another family member, Robert Brezler, began his career at Excel Glass. After serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, Bob began as a laborer/apprentice. Mr. Leister retired in May 1973, at which time Mr. Larry Brezler, son-in-law of Mr. Leister, became sole owner. At this time, there were six full-time employees.

In 1981, a new 51-by-100-foot building was built to serve as a warehouse for the increasing business. Bob Brezler was very active in business decisions and was becoming more involved in the actively growing company. He introduced some new ideas.

The glazing industry was being replaced with insulated units and more energy efficient windows. It was apparent that big commercial storefronts, custom mirror Pittsburgh work, and shower doors Pittsburgh had become the hot new items. They also did automotive glass installation and were one of the very few places in the area where glass patterns were available for antique car buffs.

Larry Brezler retired at the end of 1987 to become Chairman of the Board and his son Bob is now COO of Excel Glass Co., Inc. Bob realized that the most important part of this family business was, and still is, excellent service and good customer relations.

In 1988, again experiencing growing pains, the office was enlarged and remodeled to its present size. Eighty to 100 framed mirrors are on display, as are full-sized shower doors. These come in many frame finishes and several glass options.

In 2003, William Pecora acquired Excel Glass, Co., Inc. and has kept the current management and staff intact. Mr. Pecora is committed to growing our customer satisfaction and expanding the residential and commercial capabilities of Excel Glass Co., Inc.

William Pecora saw the need to supply his customers granite counter tops.  In 2008,  a new 10,000 square foot facility was built to house a state of the art granite fabrication facility at the Jeannette Industrial Park in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. This facility specializes in granite, marble, quartz and other natural stone products used in fabricating and installing kitchen and bathroom countertops, fireplaces, and window sills.  The facility also stores a large selection of granite slabs so that customers can select their actual stone.
